Thank You to Bayer

January 29th, 2016
We would like to say a big thank you to Bayer. Bayer handed over a cheque to us for £1650.50 last week for our services for local people with learning disabilities and their families and carers. The money was raised by Bayer’s Culture Club, a social organisation formed to bring employees together and enjoy different activities.  The club organised a very successful raffle supported by donations from local companies; a film night, and a quiz night, from which the proceeds emerged.

Ferenc PÖlz, a Bayer business unit head, and head of the company’s Culture Team, said: “West Berkshire Mencap is a specialist charity which not only provides much needed support for its regular users, but great volunteer opportunities, which I know some of our employees have taken up.  It’s fantastic our Culture Club was able to raise this sum so soon after being formed, and that they chose to support a local organisation which is well liked among our members.”

Bayer has previously helped us in the past with our Growing4All project.  In 2013, a large group of volunteers from Bayer spent a day digging the Growing4All garden in Kingsclere, which provides a learning and social environment for adults with learning disabilities, and volunteer help is also given to us by Bayer employee, Lindsey Loane on a week to week basis at our Newbury Gateway Club.

Receiving the cheque was our Fundraising Manager, Carrie-Anne Ferrie, who said: “We really appreciate all the hard work and time the Bayer Culture Club have put in to these fundraising endeavours in aid of us. It makes a huge difference to have support from a company like Bayer, whose staff have really gone the extra mile to support us and the work we do locally.  Knowing we have a company like Bayer who are willing to support us with fundraising and volunteering is something we are extremely grateful for, and we would like to thank Bayer and its staff for their on-going support.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all businesses, volunteers, models and staff members who supported and helped at our Fashion Show, which took place on the 27th October 2015. The evening was a wonderful success, that received really positive feedback from everybody involved and meant such a lot to us and all the people we support who were involved.

Special thanks go to Thomas Eggar LLP, Rock Choir, Newbury College, Nando’s Newbury, Stuart March Photography, The Chequers Hotel and the Mayor and Mayoress for all their help and support of this year’s event. As well as to all the kind businesses who donated prizes for the evening. However, a huge thank you must go to The Clothing Warehouse, who without their support we would not have been able to have this year’s event.

Thank You – Garden Party

August 3rd, 2015

We would like to thank everyone involved with our Garden Party on Monday. The weather even though it was windy, stayed dry and it was a lovely afternoon.

The event wouldn’t have been such a success without the support of some wonderful individuals. A special thank you to Jane Staunton who generously did the catering for us and Two Cocks Brewery for kindly donating the beer for the event. A huge thank you to the brass band who entertained all afternoon with their fantastic music. And last, but not least, thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, service users and staff who helped with the event.

Thank You to Anne and Tesco

August 3rd, 2015

A huge thank you to Anne Atkins, from Tesco at London Road in Newbury, who not only kindly volunteered at our Garden Party on Monday, but also brought in a variety of fruit for the children on our summer play scheme to try as part of Tesco’s Farm to Fork scheme. The rainbow of fruit was enjoyed by all the children who were attending play scheme on that day, and they even all got to leave with goodie bags of fruit and stickers.

Thanks to Anne for organising this for us, and to Tesco and their Farm to Fork Scheme for allowing Anne to come and do this wonderful activity for the children.
